I am so excited to finally share more of my everyday natural living products with you! It can seem so overwhelming when making the switch to more natural living lifestyle. What products are best, safest, most affordable, and most important to switch out? Well, I am going to answer all of those for you today! Plus, I am going to share some of our most recent home updates with you that includes a complete bedroom and bathroom makeover even using natural, non-toxic paint!

Favorite Linens.

One area we have been working on switching out over the past year is textiles and everyday linens – bedding, towels, rugs, bath robes etc. There is a huge difference in organic cotton and you can read more about the process and how it differs from conventional cotton in a previous blog post here. We have been extremely happy with all of our organic cotton essentials from Grund and I highly recommend them if you are wanting to make the switch too! Some of our favorites include the Savannah bed sheets, Sea Pines organic throw blanket, Charleston bath rugs, Pinehurst towels, and the Ocean Isle robe! All items were gifted from Grund American, as always all opinions are 100% my own.

Favorite every day teeth care and bath & body products.

We have made the switch to more natural bath and body over the past few years and it is always one of the most common topics asked about. Some of these include toothpaste, deodorant, body wash and shampoo for ourselves and the kids. For everyday favorite make-up and face essentials see previous blog post here. Toothpaste was one of our priorities to change out. Conventional toothpaste often contains fluoride which is known as a neurotoxin and is not safe, especially for young children. It affects the brain during the most susceptible stages of life, before birth and during early childhood.  There have even been several studies showing that ingesting(which is common for toddlers to ingest toothpaste until they learn how to properly spit) fluoride can effect and lower children’s IQ levels along with the increasing risk of ADHD. We knew we wanted to start a family a few years ago and making this switch was first and most important on the list!

We have been using Dr.Brite for well over a year now and is our primary go-to teeth care products for the entire family. Their products have the EWG top rated verification which is super important! Our favorite toothpaste includes the whitening mint(with activated charcoal), coco chai(with organic coconut oil), and the berry kids toothpaste(has Vitamin C!). We also love the whitening mint mouth wash and the berrylicious spray for kids to help promote healthy teeth and gums! Last but not least I am SO thrilled to announce their newest product – natural teeth whitening trays! I am currently testing them out and can not wait to see and share the results! You can purchase them along with any of the above mentioned Dr. Brite products or any products on their website and save 10% with code Amber10. This is a permanent discount code and does not expire!

For everyday bath and body, we have switched to using Attitude Living products which are also verified top-rated on EWG cosmetic database. Some of our favorites include the men’s 2 in 1 scalp care which removes loose dandruff flakes, volume and shine shampoo and conditioner, the super leaves shower gel, the lemon leaves body cream(seriously best body lotion I have EVER used), the air purifiers, and the 2 in 1 natural shampoo and body wash for the kids!

Deodorant is such an important thing to swap for a cleaner alternative. Conventional deodorants that contain aluminum-based antiperspirants are highly linked to major health issues. Also, women do not need these toxic chemicals so close to breast tissue and breast area due to increased risk for breast cancers. There are so many great and safer brands out there and you may have to try out several different ones to find the one that works best for you. I recommend doing an “armpit detox” when switching from conventional to natural deodorant. Here are some of our favorites!

Last but not least, one of the most important features of the room – the paint! Did you know that paints can be incredibly toxic to our bodies when breathing in? We were so happy to discover Benjamin Moore natural line of paint known as Natura! It is certified allergy and asthma friendly, has zero VOC(very important), & zero emissions(also very important). These are things you should take seriously and give careful thought and consideration for the health of your family, and especially when pregnant. Here is more information directly from their website. I am so happy to report that immediately after the painting was done I could not smell any odor and it dried almost immediately.

What are VOCs?

Volatile organic compounds (“VOCs”) are chemicals that, along with oxides of nitrogen and sunlight, create ground level ozone, a major component of smog. Certain VOCs are also harmful when inhaled and may pose indoor air quality concerns.

What does Zero Emissions mean?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has determined that an emission-free or zero emissions (or VOC) paint claim can be substantiated by, among other things, evidence demonstrating the paint has trace levels of emissions six hours or less after application (and thereafter), and contains no substance that could cause material harm to the health of the average adult under normal anticipated use. Natura® paint meets this standard.

What does “trace levels of emissions” mean?

“Trace” level of emission means:

  • A VOC has not been intentionally added to the covered product;
  • Emission of the covered product does not cause material harm that consumers typically associate with emission, including harm to the environment or human health; and
  • Emission of the covered product does not result in more than harmless concentrations of any compound higher than would be found under normal conditions in the typical residential home without interior architectural coating
